It looks as if spring is finally on its way. Before it gets here, I think its time for my readers to prepare for some spring-cleaning. Usually in fashion, people refer to spring-cleaning as an act of getting rid of old clothing. Here at Fashion Fridays we want it to pertain to all aspects of your life and not just your closet.
Lets start with the home. There are items you have been storing throughout your homes such as old papers, gifts you’ve never opened, and clothing with tags still on it from Bloomingdales LAST summer, etc. Its time to either put it to good use or get rid of it. When is the last time you gave your house some attention with a good thorough cleansing? If you must keep certain documents, put them all together in one spot and store them. After that, go throughout your entire house and give it a good sweeping, mopping, window washing and vacuum. You will feel much better about embracing the spring with a clean house. Once the cleaning portion is done, its time to move to the closet.
If you still have that spring fling dress from the 10th grade and its your 3rd year out of college, its time to donate that somewhere. I am totally against throwing old clothes away unless it’s completely worn out. #FashionFridays readers, we are all about giving back. There are so many shelters, clothing banks, and thrift stores that take clothing for people that are less fortunate than us. For example, in the Metropolitan area there are consignment shops such as Buffalo Exchange. You can take your clothing there and they will buy it back from you based on the season and condition of the clothing. If not a place like Buffalo Exchange, there is a local shelter near your home that I’m sure will gladly take them. Once your closet is clean we can move on to a new aspect of everyone’s lives, Social Media.
For a person that has been on social networking sites approximately 8 years, it is imperative to do a spring-cleaning of my active pages. If you’ve been on social media as long as I have or within the last 3-4 years, I am sure you have some cleaning to do as well. Before you start deleting old self-incriminating pictures from years ago, save them to a flash drive so that you still have the memory. As technology advances, so should our maturity on social media. It’s not ok to still have those sophomore year spring break pictures in Cancun up and you’re 4 years out of college. Not only should we clean up our images, but our friends list as well. Not that you’re better than the next person, but there are just certain people that should not have access to our lives anymore. IT IS OK TO LET SOME PEOPLE GO! This leads to the last part of spring-cleaning we have to do.
Not only do we want to clean up our friends list on social media, but people in our lives in general. Whether it is your love life or friendships, some relationships are just for a season. Some people are no longer good for us mentally, physically and spiritually. Although we might have good times with these people, its better to just keep the memories than keep the person around. When letting go, its not because there’s a problem between you and that person, but just something that has to be done in order for you to progress and become a better person.
Sometimes we hold on to things for the memory, when in reality it’s potentially something that could be holding us back or blocking us from our next blessing. We have to clean up the clutter we’ve housed over the winter to start fresh with a new season approaching.
I feel more prepared for spring now that we’ve gotten some cleansing done and hope my readers do too!
