Fashion Friday’s readers, it is officially March 1st! Usually during the winter, I hibernate and come back out around spring time, but yours truly has been out and about attending several events to give you all a first look at what’s going on in the Metropolitan Area. This week I had the honor of attending The Women’s Elevation Magazine launch as well as an exclusive live performance by R&B recording artist RaVaughn at the DTLR Radio launch party. The majority of the interviews conducted in February were with several influential men in the fashion/entertainment industry. Today we highlight two women who are on the journey of leaving their footprints in the hearts of the entertainment industry. Both of these women stand for elevating women thus we call this weeks Fashion Fridays the Girl Power edition.
First up, we have Miss DeLisha Sylvester, CEO/Founder of the Women’s Elevation Magazine.

What is Your Favorite Book?
“ A Woman at Point Zero, a novel by Nawal El Saadawi. I love this book. I read it for my African American studies class”.
Who is your favorite fashion designer?
“I love me some Michael Kors, I really do. He makes really nice handbags and I just love it”.
Who has been the most influential woman in your life?
“She is right over there (points near musical entertainment), my mother is. With her battling cancer right now, I look up to her everyday. She is the strongest woman I know next to my grandmother”
When you were a child, and you said, “When I grow up, I want to be”
“I wanted to be a teacher”
What is your inspiration behind Women’s Elevation Magazine?
“My inspiration comes from being a mom and having my first child and then meeting all of these incredible women in business and it kind of just took off from there. I wanted to be able promote them, inspire them, elevate them in mind body and spirit.
The launch took place at the International Art and Artist Museum on February 23, 2013. Fashion Fridays would like to thank Miss Sylvester for taking time to interview with us during her major event. Readers, especially my lady readers, I recommend you subscribe to this magazine.
While attending the event I had the privilege of meeting several other entrepreneurs. When you walked into the venue, the delightful scent of Aiden’s Cuisine teased your taste buds, and it did not disappoint. Mr. Aiden J. Baptiste-Boissiere has an amazing presentation of all organic cuisine and the perfect mocktails to compliment the meal. While enjoying the food as well as the entertainment, guest were able to network as well as shop with different vendors. I had the privilege of meeting jewelry designers, Ms. Key of Secret Keyz as well as Allison Faith of Pretty Little Wire. Both women are available for private styling parties, entertainment events, girl’s night parties, etc. Overall this was an amazing launch and I look forward to the success of the Women’s Elevation Magazine.

Later in the week, I headed over to Bar 7 with Onstage DC’s Style Sight photographer Kara Foster for the exclusive live performance by RaVaughn. Such a beautiful spirit, RaVaughn was recently signed to Ne-Yo’s label CompoundU/Columbia Records. Although we want to shine light on her musical talent, for Fashion Fridays sake, we wanted to learn more about her fashion style.

What is your personal style?
“I am all about feeling comfortable and liking the way I look. I am a little edgy, but I don’t have a cap on it. I can put on a gown, I can put on sneakers or heels. Whatever I’m feeling that day. I think everyone wakes up and says oh I’m not feeling heels today or I feel like getting sexy today. I feel like I can switch it up.
How important is it to stay true to your personal style throughout your career when you’re getting dressed for shoots and events?
“Personal style is definitely important. That’s the first thing people see. Before a person opens their mouth, you see them. Unfortunately the way the world works, you are judged by the way you look. Your style shows who you are and your personality. I’m fun, I’m sarcastic, I like to be around people and I believe my style portrays that.
Who is your favorite designer?
“I am a shoe head, so I would have to say Giuseppe Zanotti. There is no shoe of his that I do not like.
(She answered my next question)
What is your favorite accessory to an outfit?
“Shoes and I love jewelry. I can’t go without jewelry, you can never have enough!”
After all of her interviews we had the opportunity to watch her bring the house down. Hosted by DJ Quicksilva

The crowd definitely enjoyed RaVaughn’s intimate performance. Her EP will be out early summer, so make sure you check that out and support.
