picture of JC performing It's always a pleasure to visit B-More, our Charm City neighbor, and doubly so when the reason is to catch our favorite acoustic duo JC performing at the Canal Street Festival. We made it just in time for the start of their set and in addition to hearing them at the top of their game we also snapped a few pics for the Everyday Style section. JC is comprised of Jenee Bevett on vocals and guitar impressario Cornell Pearce providing string accompaniment. We call Jenee our DMV Diva and his contemporaries call Cornell one of the best guitarists in the area, hands down. We added a video of JC performing live at the festival to the OnStage Video Showcase and you can find 15 photos of what folks were styling in our Everyday Style Photo Showcase.

Here’s another entry in our #TheOnesToWatchIn2012 series. We caught up with DC native Daryn Alexus whose new mixtape release Vintage Heart. Modern Love just dropped on datPiff on Valentines Day. We were impressed with the styling and classiness of the intro video and added it to our OnStage Video Showcase for your viewing pleasure. As you can see from her responses below, Daryn is a sophisticated, confident artist and we think the future is full of big things for her. Welcome to the Stage, Daryn!

Daryn, tell us a little about yourself….

I grew up in DC. Lived in NE but uptown, NW, was my playground; running up and down Georgia Ave. Playing kick ball with friends on Brightwood Elementary playground. Shepherd, Alice Deal, Wilson, and Duke Ellington all played a huge part in who I am. I met so many different amazing people. The culture in DC is insane! Even as a child I loved it. Most of all Caribbean day every summer, ‘The Ave.’ filled with people. All these things inspired me as an artist, from my sound to my personal style. A sense of freedom just reigns over DC and I’ve embodied the spirit of my city. Now, being in Chicago for college, just really extends that whole vibe.

We’ll be spotlighting quite a few of #TheOnesToWatch in 2012 and can’t think of a better place to start than DMV artist A.C. Springs. Keep an eye out for this Seat Pleasant, MD rapper. His newest song is “My Life” and he’s already been featured on WKYS DMV’s Own. Of course we dropped his live performance video in the Video Showcase but don’t stop there. Check out all his music and upcoming event information at his Reverb Nation page and at http://soundcloud.com/a-c-springs. We think you’ll agree he’s got a positive flow and mad potential. Many thanks to Chekeska Rashad for introducing us to his music. YouTube video courtesy of CoalHeartedLIVE.

The success Ryan Leslie has enjoyed in his music and recording career is no surprise to any of his early fans. The talented artist has hit-winning song credits, a Grammy nomination, and is about to release his third solo effort, “Les is More” in July 2011. In so many ways, Leslie’s career is a blueprint for emerging artists in the DMV and everywhere else as well; study your craft, put real time into studio work, associate with industry players you can learn from and be willing to apply those lessons, then go out and grind! We first saw his video “Glory” on the great website TrackHustle.com and wanted to feature it as well. Raw power here… the talent is not surprising but his ability to put it out there is stunning! Hit the comments link below and tell us what you think.
