Fashion Friday’s readers, I was browsing through the videos on the OnStage website (which I encourage my readers to do as well) and came across an artist named Daryn Alexus. When I looked a little closer, I saw that Daryn was a young woman that I attended Alice Deal Junior High School with (Go Vikings!).  Throughout the video, not only did I hear her beautiful voice, but noticed her sense of style as well.  It was inevitable that I would do a Fashion Fridays spotlight on her.

 Daryn Alexus

The one thing I will say about this young lady is that no matter what happens in her career, she will stay true to herself. Fashion Fridays, lets get to know Miss Daryn Alexus :

When someone hears the name Daryn Alexus, what is the first thought that should come to their mind?

Real.

Being from DC, I like to say we have a very unique style.   How would you say your fashion style represents your hometown?

I’ve definitely been thrifting since an extremely young age. My good friend Briana Alvarez introduced me to the idea of it in the sixth grade. As you stated, the fashion market in DC is grand and diverse, that creative atmosphere definitely rubbed off on me. I hate matching and I love mixing and matching patterns! Also, when color blocking became such a huge trend I didn’t really understand the hype, I had been “color blocking since the dawn of my existence lol

Who are some entertainers that inspire you both fashion wise and music wise?

Victoria Beckham is definitely one of my fashion favorites in the entertainment industry and I also love miss Riri! As for music, Beyoncé is my biggest inspiration, and of course MJ! I am also heavily inspired musically by Frank O., Kanye, Drake, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar. The legends I most admire are Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Lenny Williams, the Stylistics, Al Green, Marvin Gay...just to name a few!

As an up and coming independent artist, what would you say is the most difficult part about being in the entertainment industry?

Getting people to care lol. But seriously though! We live in a time where making music no longer requires talent and therefore everybody and they momma sending out Links to their music so now no one even cares to listen. Its a matter of getting yourself to stand out in such a saturated industry.

You are at the Grammy's, what designer are you wearing?

Wow! That’s a big one! I personally have never gotten deeply rooted in labels or designers, and maybe that’s because I can’t even remotely afford it hahaha! I always like to find hidden gems, which is why thrift always appealed to me. But, by the time I get to the Grammy’s I’m sure I’ll have a little more pull, that being said, I love to have on Chanel or Eli Saab!

Lastly, if you could write a song about fashion, what would the title be?

Posh .

This was by far one of my favorite interviews to read.  This young lady is very talented and has a good head on her shoulders.

Daryn's first EP Vintage Heart. Modern Love. was released February 2012. Twerk Sum, Daryn's most recent song can be downloaded at www.soundcloud.com/darynalexus (all other music can be downloaded here as well).  While you are checking her out, make sure you listen to one of my favorites, Party.  Her next project/EP Vintage Heart. Modern Love. 2 will be releasing in the very near future.

Stay tuned Fashion Friday readers, Daryn Alexus is on her way to the top.  You can also follow twitter.com/DarynAlexus to keep up with her performances, music, and videos.

Until next week!
